Imagine yourself walking along the coast of one of the world’s most beautiful islands. The water is crystal clear allowing you to see the ocean’s hidden treasures. The gentle rumble of waves crashing on the shore soothes the soul. Your breath stops as you take a few moments to capture an amazing sunset as it paints the sky sherbert orange and cotton candy pink. Excitement fills the air as you are pleasantly surprised by humpback whales playfully breaching in the distance. You pinch yourself and wonder if you are in a dream? But you’re not. You’re on one of the most amazing outdoor adventures on Maui. Best of all it’s easy and free. You are on the Wailea Beach Walk.
This walk is for anyone who wants to soak up Maui’s natural beauty without having to get dirty or break a sweat.
Traveling Aloha Ack (Act) Like One Local Tip
Wailea is home to some of Maui’s most luxurious hotels like the Four Seasons and the Fairmont, but you don’t have to be uber rich to be able to enjoy the views or the grounds. You just need to ack like one local like me and enjoy everything that is free.
Want a romantic sunset dinner? No need go to da fancy restaurant. Go to Tamura’s. Grab some poke (pick up some Hawaiian poke), some beer, or if you like be fancy… some wine. Lay out on a blanket on the sand and spend some real quality time with your honey. Because it’s not how much money you spend, but how well you spend your moments with the one the you love.

How to Get Here and Where to Park?
There are a lot of entry points to the Wailea Beach Walk. Basically every public beach access and parking will give you access to the trail. I prefer to start the walk at the Polo Beach parking and beach access. I like to start here because it is at one end rather than in the middle.
To get to the Polo Beach parking lot take the right turn immediately after the Fairmont Kealani Hotel entrance. The public parking lot will be on the right at the end of the road.

Why Go?
Believe it or not, but we never really discovered this walk until a year ago. Sure, we’ve been on small segments of the Wailea Beach Walk when making our way to the beach, but we never thought to walk it in its entirety. In the past we’ve tried to avoid venturing too far because the area was a little touristy and we like to avoid the crowds.
But you know what? It’s fun playing tourist once in a while. The walk is long enough that there are long stretches where you’ll be the only one on the path. You’ll feel like you’re on your own private beachfront estate.
It’s also a lot of fun getting a free sneak peak at the nightly luau going on at the many resorts along the walk. You get a chance to listen to authentic Hawaiian music while you watch the sunset. If you’re patient enough, you can even catch part of a hula performance or a fireknife show.
We try to go on this walk once a month. Wailea is such a beautiful area. The Wailea Beach Walk is one of the many fun, exciting, and free things that you can do on Maui. And it is one of the reasons why we feel like we are on vacation every day.
If you’re just visiting or if you are lucky enough to live Hawaii then make a point to go on the Wailea Beach Walk. You won’t regret it.
